1. Muscles (Muscle Growth)
When working out at the gym, your body is working hard to contract your muscles and create movement. In order to do this, it needs energy in the form of glucose. Glucose is a type of sugar that the body stores away from the foods we eat in the form of glycogen.

When you are working out at the gym, your breathing rate will increase until the muscles surrounding the lungs can’t move any faster. This whole capacity of oxygen use is called VO2 max (Teeraphan Sangkaew, Kasem Pantuso, Chawapong Metheethammawat (2). The higher the VO2 max, the more fit a person is.
So, what happens to your lungs when you are working out at the gym? Your breathing rate increases as you engage in muscle-building workouts or other bodybuilding workouts. This results in increased oxygen being delivered to your muscles, helping them grow and gain weight. Additionally, as your VO2 max increases, your body becomes more efficient at utilizing oxygen, allowing you to strain yourself harder and longer during your workouts.
If you are looking to improve your fitness and build muscle, it is important to focus on workouts that can help increase your VO2 max.
